Biography

Writing as an outlet for one's emotions can be a very liberating experience... Share your thoughts and feelings, be willing to learn, continue to be inspired, and in turn you may touch lives... In the end, all that we desire is love, acceptance, and understanding.

Il n'y a rien de plus beau que l'amour...

Samples

Change

We are in constant motion
Like the winds of time
We learn, we progress, we change
Looking back at the senarios of our life
Knowing now what is real and true
Will remain in our hearts forever
And the insignificance
Of that which we choose to forget
As the seasons pass us by
Makes us more aware than ever
Of how we have come to be
So emotionally capable

The Berry Bridge

Let’s play

and run away together

to our secret place

It will be so much fun

no worries or troubles

just leave them all behind

We’ll climb over rocks

through the verdure

beyond the secluded pathways

It will be just a while

to our little paradise

all nestled away

And when we cross over

the Berry Bridge

let’s play

Hiya Francine ;)
I love French - it is a most beautiful language - I love the sounds & the energy - such raw passion - but I do not speak a word of it & have failed to learn due mon dylexette penchant - yet my mispent youth was spent buying lots French punk rock records by bands like Jaques Higelin, Telephone, and the mighty Metal Urbain... it was the flow of this beautiful language and the sound of the musique - maybe for me... much like you do not need to speak French to enjoy the art - so here is a link to Historie Connective by Metal Urbain - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OY2eBbZQD4
a lot of this stuff came out of France on a label called New Rose in the 70's - I used to chop logs to get the money to buy them..
and like i say...
F'ck Poetry -
Let's dance !!!
x

ps. sorry that this does not rhyme ;)

The degree sign - assuming you use Word - if you go to the 'Insert' on the top line, then drop down to the 'Symbol' and click on that, you will see a vast array of symbols; accents; fractions; all sorts of weird and wonderful things

Hopefully I've helped a little - shout back if there's anything else I can do (very limited I'm afraid)
Again, thanks

Hi Francine, you're one of the few poets left who make comments on the work i do. I want to thank you for that. Regarding the last entry Once Upon the Darkness; a lot has gone unsaid over the years. My earliest memories are not good. Not good at all, and though i try to forgive an awful lot of abuse that happened back then, its damned difficult. If i wasnt being hit by parents or locked in the pantry, it was the teachers and pupils at Darnhill primary that humiliated. I have lots to spiel on about. The reasons i say so much, is because i wouldnt want my worst enemy to go through the trauma i go through on a daily basis. Dont get me wrong, there is love in my heart, and smiles too, but in my quietest moments i am so forlorn about all that happened to me, as man and boy. I wish you a very merry christmas, and hope that if i just reach one reader who can promote the rights of children and who can spread the word, then i have achieved my goal. You're obviously someone who cares in society, and i thank you for that. Many turn away, not wishing to express the courage it truly takes, to open up to all the worlds ills.

Have a good christmas and all the best for the new year

Mike

Thanks for your comment Francine. Yes - you can probably see where I'm coming from. It is a very emotional one for me - not sure how easily I will find it to perform without choking up. I was inspired to write it by reading Gus's recent one called Going Home. I would like to record it - just need to buy myself a decent mike and learn how to do it. Don't want to keep paying out for the privilege... Hope you are well. x

Aha.. I see now. Well... This poem is written from the view of a father who's daughter has just been to stay for a while and has now gone back to her mum's home. (nest) leaving the reminder of one of her ginger hairs trapped in the car in which she travelled home. This reminds the dad of his (temporary loss). Those who know me, know that this is my own personal situation. However these days the dip in emotion I feel after her visits is a lot less than in the past. Hope this helps. Win x

Hi Francine, Thanks for reading my last one. OOps typo corrected, thanks.

Two definitions may help -
1) Choke - noun: a valve that controls the flow of air into the carburetor of a gasoline engine. An esential part of a cars starting process.
2) Choke - verb: breathe with great difficulty, as when experiencing a strong emotion.

Hello Francine,
Thank you for reading 'Charlie', my absence from the site of late was due to a recent 'difficulty'...

We all endure them at times, with that difficulty for the most part , gone, I can resume. ...
Finding myself able to step once again into the circle of fire we all consumed by, poetry.

It is clear from your writing that you are moved by emotion, romance, with a sprinkling of pazazz...

.The final line is to emphasis just how young Paul was....and also to act as an indicator regarding the maternal maturity of Shirley.

As A love story and a love story alone perhaps the 'Final lines would not be suited... but this is not quite as romantic a story as you first believe...

Any way my little French American biscuit of love.... Thanks again

Hi Francine, many thanks for your thoughtful comments on my poem For Whom The Wheel Turns. I would agree with you that the concience has its own way of "pay back" but I would like to think that for those who have no conscience, there is a higher order, a sort of cosmic "equalising" which applies to all things. This was what the poem was about .

Hi Francine
I visited Canton Ohio last year, staying with a local couple. I spent a week in a school (5 to 14) discussing life in the UK and poetry. It was wonderful. All being well, I'll be back for a week in the next 6 months.
Amish life - I have a friend (now) who owns a farm/B&B in Walnut Creek. His anticedents were Amish, so I was fortunate to have a good guide around the Amish region, also being able to meet and chat with quite a few Amish. All of them seemed so content with life. What would I give?
Thanks for the interest. I'm always here

Hi Francine, thank you for sharing my poem, I am pleased you liked it. Nothing is more beautiful than love? I think in your work it is true. Your writing has a wonderful dreamlike quality to the language and structure. Hi Francine,
Thanks for thinking of me. I think of my friends on poetry site at least once a day. Been busy looking at homes. Trying to find one I can afford, is not easy, they say they have all these deals, but its alot of hot air.It was about 105 degrees here today, very normal for texas in july, but it did not make it feel any better to know its normal. No poetry these days, nothing of inspiration going on, plus to busy to let my mind wonder.Trying to keep 3 teenagers safe, tough job, and Im stuck with it.I was up last night at 2 am, beating on doors and yelling, like a nutter, because, the phone was ringing and music was playing, all very normal for them, but I had my fill of it.Ah, well do take care xx clarissa

Hi Francine,

Mon baton de pain français préféré.

In answer to your request;

What I’m trying to say, albeit in a clumsy fashion, is that when poetry dwells on recent love match trauma, which is always extraordinary to the recipient but never the reader, the flow of words that make up the poem are often stilted creatively by the subconscious’s need to satisfy the instinct to heal by confessional expose and therefore the therapeutic nature of the:

(Oh no! not a another Love lost broken heart gone forever shagged someone else, came back and beat me up and then told me he was gay and my pet black whale was harpooned by a Japanese whaler dirty rotten bastard poem)

That category of poem, in my opinion, often becomes morose and predictable and as a consequence the reader, no matter how empathetic they may be, finds the poem creatively wearisome and repetitive. I hope this goes someway towards answering your request to clarify my critique.

I.E. Heard it all before, been there done it , bought the tee shirt.

I wrote a poem recently entitled
‘Enough With the Love Songs Already’ if you can’t find it, and in the event you may wish to read it I’ll send you it.

Gus xx

Hi Francine Poems from the heart... love poems, unrequited...love lorn and lost somehow lose a certain quality in the creative sense, very often tell me that this is the poet's first venture or key into poetry...but this poem I think is head and shoulders above your recent postings... It's only my opinion.. hey what do I know ?

The other comment regarding ... 'an answer'
I believe was answered by your goodself, You didn't believe I did it all by guess work, or is that not what you said?.....you naughty french fancy.

Francine, I really like To Be Free's clear sincerity.

Freedom...freedom ... freedom. It's so precious but how do we differeniate it from the mere will to please ourselves, which can, of course, lead to evil.

I can't remember the exact line, or the actual song, but Roddy Frame sang "it's been so hard to find the freedom in me". It is hard, for sure, but strive we must. Anyway, nice one Francine.

Hi Francine by way of explanation I have posted the reply that I sent to Moxy re the change of tenses ...

The senses and variations are a number of voices and blurring of images the book is just pure EVIL and must not be opened at any cost, hence the Title. He She They over time don't heed the warning and eventually open the book and sneak a peek they, he, she, are, will be, was in awe of these 'voices' which in turn herald their and many others undoing.

It's partly based on a book I once started Titled The Room, which is in turn based on a room within the house I grew up in.
The Kama Sutra would have been given away with Wheetie Bangs in comparison to this book..written by the Devil himself so he tells me..
Once again many thanks

What I was struggling to say was,

How well you are getting to know me... is that for better or worse...I wonder?

Do you know it does not really make alot of sense in English, well it did at the time.

Hey francine, hope you're well? Thank you for your comment and your kind words on 'this aint a mans world' its true what you said 'women are still undermined' but who are the backbones of familys?
Who pick up the peices when dad dont wanna know any more?
Who explains to the child where his/her dad went?
Who goes out to work all day, comes home, cleans, cooks tea, sits down for a moment of peace,
only to be back on her feet again the next day to do it all again?
THE WOMAN,
thats why i wrote the poem because i see women doing all the work and men taking the credit...
It isnt right....
And thats why i say...
THIS AINT NO MANS WORLD!!...Lol...X

Thanks Francine. 'Sestina Lente' is a play on words, on the Latin proverb Festina Lente meaning 'hasten slowly', or I suppose, 'more haste less speed'.
I found the form of a Sestina difficult since it uses the same line endings repeatedly, but in a different order for each stanza. and the linking of several ideas into one made things even more complicated for me.
I wanted to link the act of writing poetry with the act of getting on with life in general, and the very physical act of making a backpacking trip, which in this instance, was the pilgrimage route from Le Puy in the Auvergne, to Santiago de Compostella in Galicia, which I did in 2001.

Hi Francine

You know, in a weird way, writing about grim things gets it out and stops the depression, lol. I think I've spent too long being a goth ;)

I totally agree that our work achieves a good balance, but I do envy your abiility to capture the sensitive and subtle aspects of love and beauty.

I would love to be able to write poems that uplft and reaffirm in the way that yours do. for example, 'What is love?' how fresh, honest and ispiring! Your work reminds me of Eluard, who I think is amazing; are you familiar with his work?

You have inspired me to set myself a task. Within 7 days I have to write an uplifiting, positive poem; wish me luck :)

Take care Francine!

Thanks for your comment, Francine and thank you for taking the time to reading my work. Unfortunately most if it is sad or depressing, as I write more as a catharsis than as a craft. Happy times do not translate into poetry for me!

I can see from your work that we have obviously felt similar emotions as I can relate to your poetry from the heart. I enjoy reading your work and look forward to reading more.

HI Francine,
Thanks so much for reading my poems.Yes , for me to write a poem, is an outlet, be it from pain from the past, or now.Things I read in the news can get me all fired up, and I will do research, on the topic, and write.Chaos, was in part written in England, and even though, I think England is very pretty, Im not sure ill ever go back, it was difficult, and just to cold.I had cancer a year ago, and that put me in a bad mood.I have a bad habit, I cant keep my mouth shut, I say what I think, almost always. But for most of my life, I did not speak my mind, and that was not good.Poetry, is wonderful. I tend to always think that, what Im reading is a personal truth, for the writter. Very few of my poems are an act, or made up, or whatever it is that some call it on here. I deleted most of my poems from this site, so as to not offend others, and have not felt much like writting.
I have read your poems, and they are all very nice, your poem "when we are alone" is wonderful and shows a deep connection, and feeling of love for a special person. Thanks so much for taking your time to read my poems, and to write to me on here.

Thank you, Francine.
I believe you are correct in your biography about writing as an outlet for emotions. I wonder if society might be a better place if standards of literacy amongst chidren were better, and that, as a result young people were more 'emotionally literate', better able to express themselves without resorting to violence or self-destructive behaviour ?
