Paul, time ran out on us all last night at Sale. I have a computer question: why can I not cross directly from my email to the exact place on WOL anymore? Actually, if a comment were on something posted months ago, I would likely never find it. I'm thoroughly spoiled by the prior privilege. And you really do look great!

Thank you, Paul. It was an honour. I bumped into Roger McGough on the bus, and it all developed from there. See you somewhere soon, hopefully.

Hello Mr. Nice and approachable. Where have all the photographs gone? There are none at all that I can see, even my own on my profile space. Thank you.

n.b. if there is no immediate time limit various other stuff can be procured - innit

Huge cheery thank yous for your glorious 'ha ha.' Oh, hang on -- a 'ha ha' is a kind of stone-lined trench. Are you commenting or offering landscape design advice? :)

Paul, thanks for replying. I've wondered today if I was hasty, and if you were deliberately using the poetic device of 'Homeric epithet', nouns and adjectives wonderfully familiar and therefore acceptable. If so, I bow to your pen. I had to look the expression up; but I remembered the premise.

Many thanks for the pointer there Boss... the chimp in me still stabs pretty randomly on these binary portal things y'know... can be a bit of a struggle... but I'll follow those instructions, go set to and see how that works out for me... glad you enjoyed 'Panning for Vibes'
kind regards

I would ditch the archaic 'gambol' and replace it with the homophone 'gamble'...which maintains the sense...but adds a certain...something?

IMHO

Fine stuff.

Paul, that's a brilliant idea. I met Meriel for the first time last night. Became a temporary child-minder/grandparent whilst Meriel had a fag-break.
Hopefully she'll give it a go. It might be a bit spooky, having a female voice doing my wife's piece, but probably nice spooky.
Hope you're feeling better. It was chuffing cold at HB, so you were probably better off at home.

Thanks Paul, I think it comes across OK. I added the echo to try and make thisng sound different for the first and last bits as I didn't have easy access to a woman ! but yes that would have been better. Win

I take it from reading your exchange with Steve that he remembers a missing date also. You are correct in saying it isn't life threatening - I was just puzzled. I liked being able to see in a glance how many poems had been posted in one day. It also made it easy to scroll down to where you last left off reading and commenting. Not to worry if it isn't easy to rectify.

Hi Paul
That's why I said it's not life threatening, but I didn't want Isobel to think she was going crazy.
I'll go and lay down now, that's enough activity for the day
:-)

I'm just looking ahead to that new style slam you are having in September for newbies. Since Baz and I are 'virgin slammers' will we be cut any slack time wise or will we have to worry about the dreaded hooter? Also wanted to ask about the mic system - I rather like the idea of having those round the head microphones that dancers use so you don't have to worry about making movement at the same time as reciting... Any chance of those or is it too high tech for the Tudor - who would I need to speak to?

Hi Paul,
i checked out Paul Harris alphabet love poem.
Interesting how a list of words can effectively produce so many images in a mind.

Out of each word another poem can be produced.
All good stuff.

Hi Winston
Difficult for me to explain further but I'll try.
The point of the simple algorithm (poem) is to describe itself. But to try to simplify how the routine works - here's the skeleton

Recursion [parameter x]

If [parameter x] is null
Then replace [parameter x] with the word
“love”
Endif

So the answer in this case is [parameter x]

If [parameter x] = “love”

Call Recursion replacing [parameter x]
with the word “hate”
Else
Go to EndPoem
Endif

EndPoem

So the routine (poem) does two things. The first time you go through it it says "The answer is Love", the second time "The answer is Hate".

This is possibly the simplest way the algorithm could work but this simple idea is one that is used everywhere in computer programming.

Hope that helps

Hi Paul
Struggling a bit still with this. I think there is scope here some something really interesting however. Could you edit your entry so that your initial explanation and any subsequent examples are aybe in italics and the actual poem is not. This will make things clearer I hope. If not please see me ! Winston (trying to be helpfull , honest)
