A Drive

Posted on Tuesday 7th September 2010 8:47 pm

I only steer with one hand but am confused, having given the wheel to you

the other tied behind my back, I can not break or speed up

I am a visitor sitting alongside only here for the ride

passenger guest petrol filler direction seeker

map reader nervous watcher made redundant

should I snatch back the wheel to steer my path

slap the dashboard an emergency stop or hover on amber

three point, six point minutes hours pass it's red for stop....

green for go I steer with one hand the other on my lever.

Hi Jackie,
Nice to see you back too, are you on facebook?
So please you liked 'War is such a cliché' - I'm, generally speaking, not very satisfied with my own work, but I think that one had something, I was quite proud of it. I don't know Adrienne Rich but I shall go and find out. :)

Thanks for your comments on Atalanta Ballroom, Jackie. I think your poetry has taken an interesting turn recently. Dunno about you, but I've started jotting down odd lines, words and phrases, connected or apparently disconnected, when trying to put something together. Often leave them for a few days, and then see if I can try and shape them into something. I'm also listening to poetry in the car, Hughes and Larkin, which seems to help a bit, too, in tuning the ear. Not sure if it helps me drive, though!

Thanks for that :)
I'm always just grateful if anyone reads at all, doubly so if they leave a comment!
Been investigating your blog, not read it all but you have some very interesting work there.

Jacqueline, please enlarge on your reaction to the comments about Chris' CHAOS. I am intrigued.

Yes Jackie - I read other poetry - most of what's on here, a lot from other sites too, old favourites - Shakespeare, Owen, Yeats, Donne, Thomas, (Dylan, but also Darren) - the list is long; and through friends and acquaintances (many from WOL) am constantly discovering others.
I don't consider what I write to be poetry really, scribblings that sometimes help or amuse me, sometimes might strike a chord with someone else. That's the beauty of a site like this, in my opinion anyway, it enables us all - regardless of ability - to have a go and share work which means something to us, even though it may be unpublishable.
Thank-you for reading,
Cx

Jackie- once again, thanks for your comments I really do appreciate them. There are some great writers contributing to this site and I have the utmost respect for ANY individual who feels compelled to write and share their work.

As a shameless, self-centered plug there are one or two other pieces in the 'Features' section that are pretty recent too!

It's a cliché in writing circles but 'keep writing' - it's the best way to improve.

I often write complete pap - knowing that there's at least one pap fan out there warms my oven.

Hiya - many thanks for your recent comments Jackie. You can fill your writing boots on here - although many writers seem to come and go - while others I just wished they would!

Don't take some of its members too seriously - they hardly ever get out the house, while others are living downwind of industrial chemical plants, mid-life turmoil and personal frustrations.

It all adds to the soup.

Hello Jackie! How lovely of you to comment about Dandle that baby, Grandad....! You cheered me up immensely. Thank you very much indeed. I have to say, I enjoyed your wonderfully atmospheric 'A Child's Voice.' It's oddly eery and unsettling -- the event seems to be(superficially) straightforward, a walk in the mist, but it suggests something deathly too! Goosebumps!

I really wouldn't get worked up about it Jackie. I was just pulling your leg. There is nothing more natural than the occasional raunchy poem - I've written one, Ann has, many on here have. Sex is great fun, it links us to animals but also separates us from them - cos they can't write about it...tee hee x

But . . . you can't expect mere men to Not look at the risque stuff - if it is pointed out to them? Only saying this cos I care and please feel free to delete my Aunty Ann maunderings! xxxx

Yes well when I didn't put anything they did look at all the risque stuff, so I thought if I put a polite plea, then they wouldn't that was the thinking. It's like a no win situation! Cheers x

That comment on you profile could have been written by one of Lady GaGa's PR advisors.... You do realise that you will get everyone rushing to your blog with the addition of that liitle plea...LOL but hopefully they will also look at the rest..

Nice to see you back. x
