Biography

I'm a spoken word artist / performance artist based in Leicester but orginally from Hull. I'm reluctant to label myself a poet as much of my writing is grounded in rap and theatrical performance. Hence a lot of my favourite artists in the poetry / spoken word scene are essentially rappers like Kate Tempest, Joshua Idehen, Scroobius Pip, etc. However, I am learning about the nature of poetry all the time from attending gigs and open mic nights across the country.

Performing my spoken word pieces has been a real revelation for me and I keen to explore the boundaries of this art form and try to be an innovator in this field (I want to do more than just stand up and read my poem - although there is nothing wrong with this of course). I have already done a lot of experimentation with visuals, fashion, music and mime, although this often leads people to label me a 'performance artist', which I don't believe is true because the words are always the most important element for me.

Space is the Place (part three)

Planet Earth is a
wasteful place of mass decay
I’m caught up in the endless chase
for selfish gain and constant praise, and

even the space between the stars
so expansive, just
becomes another measure of
my introspective nature, but

I cannot help it –
my ego hasn’t landed
It’s way above my head that’s in the clouds,
never looking down, and

ever greater is
the hunger to create a
make-believe existence,
like in my childhood digressions, but

this time, it
comes with an exception
‘cos I’m not prepared to let my hunger
feed my self-obsessions so

I’m opening my storybook
for anyone to listen
And I’m hoping that you all enjoyed
sharing in these visions...
