A quick question.
Am I not popular enough to get a review from anybody?

Christopher,
I think you have a tendency to take things personally.
I reviewed your poem young and new and if I remember correctly so did Cayn.
This poem was then posted again under a different title - I did not put my comments as I had already reviewed that poem.
I try to review all the poems on the web - but I sometimes get concerned that I tend to be the first to do so, (and I'm not sure everyone else always wants to see my opinions) as Peter has commented I am becoming known as the inhouse reviewer!
I have posted two poems on this site for review both have been reviewed by Cayn and Moxy, this is because I asked them too, in the case of Cayn I review his poems often and have a friendship with him outside of this thread.
As for Moxy I have never had the pleasure of reviewing one of her poems formerly, but I communicate with her quite regurlarly through this column and therefore feel we have built up enough of a friendship that I can ask for her honest opinion about my work.
Peter has reviewed one of my poems - I asked him to review both, I was especially interested in his ideas on My Poem as I wrote in response to one of his, but he never got round to it because he is a busy man and not because he doesn't like me!(I hope)
He reviewed Your A to Z of Lovers for me because I asked him too personally, as I bombed with it in Wigan and as you can see I have had positive feed back from the guys about why that might be, Peter reviewed that poem for me - as he knew it meant a lot to me and I was really worried that the material was no good.
Me and Peter are friends and I review a lot of his poems, I try to hold back sometimes as I worry people will think I'm always giving Peter's poems special attention but if I really like his poems then I will comment, also I do try to make an extra effort to review the poetry of people who have given me feedback on my work as it's a two way thing, but that isn't always the case as you can see I've reviewed a lot of Phil's work and I've reviewed one of yours and as far as I know neither of you have ever commented on mine.
I hope you don't think I'm having a go at you as I'm not - I'm just trying to answer you're question honestly.
I think maybe others have the same feelings I have and they don't quite know how to respond to your comments like the oral sex joke - so they leave it up to others to respond and then sometimes it dooesn't happen - my advice would be if you want your poetry reviewed put it in the poetry review section and if somebody feels strongly enough about it they will comment on it.
Love and laughter to you and all WOL(ers)

It's nothing to do with popularity.
Firstly I don't like reviewing in case of offending the writer also I very rarely know what to say.
Secondly, I spend a lot of my time away from the computer and when I finally get home I'm too knackered to write much.(Tonight I've watch a gig walked eight miles and had to remove a dead deer from the road, I'm currently running on addrenaline!)
I have read your stuff and yes, I think they're good, I've also seen you perform and I thought you were decent I just can't comment on every poem I see, its nothing personal!

Also, when reviewing I look at the poem, not who wrote it so the comment about being popular enough in my view was a tad bit over the top, asthe poem could have been wrote by you, Magi, Moxy, Pete or Micky Mouse. The name of the writer makes no difference to me, I'll treat you all with the same contempt!! :)

Hello Christopher, I've not written any reviews of your work simply because I felt alienated byyour first posting which seemed like a Roy 'Chubby' Brown style joke with misogynistic overtones.

Also, I'm unsure why you want reviews of poems you've not written yourself, such as the Steve Turner and T.S. Eliott ones. You've posted them on the reviews page without ascribing their original writers. And why did you change Steve Turner's title?

Christopher,
Why are you putting other peoples poems i.e. T.S Elliot and Steven Turners poems on the thread and asking for them to be reviewed? And not stating the original author.

Hi Moxy,
looks like we were thinking the same thing!
Christopher I don't understand why you seem to feel the need to antagonise people?
We are all friends on this site - yes we have disagreements as me and Cayn did on the are songs poems thread about emo's that's because we all have our own unique viewpoint.
I'm not sure what exactly it is you are trying to do?
Are you trying to pass these poems off as your own?
Are you trying to get people to criticize them and then you can say - well actually they were written by great poets like T.S Elliot so what do you know?
Are you trying to prove your clever than everybody else on here? (If you are I wish you luck cause there are some incredibly clever people on this site!
Or are you trying to provoke a reaction?

Hi Maggie,
I meant T.S. Elliot -- too many 't's and not enough 'l's in previous posting -- I'd left my spectacles in the coal bunker and have just retrieved them so all is visible again!
But Christopher, why do this? As Maggie says, are you trying to provoke a reaction?

my glasses have abandoned me - I haven't seen them since I moved house...oops, I better get myself off to the opticians before my eyes decide to do the same.lol
On that note may I say Moxy you are a very learned lady - you remind me of a female version of my wonderful English Prof at Uni David Rudd who was my hero and still is, he was like the font of all knowledge - his speciality is Children's Lit but he knows so much about Feminist writings, romantic era, fairy tales etc - I am hoping to go back and do my Masters with him when the kids no longer look to me for sustenance and I can live on love of literature alone and die happy.

Oh how lovely of you to say that, Maggie! I am deeply honoured -- thank you. I read a lot and daydream a lot more. But, let's be honest about this, you're very well-read and somewhat learned yourself. Like me, you love words and have a free-wheeling imagination. Hooray! And, yes, you must do your M.A. when time and opportunity allow.
Thu, 16 Aug 2007 01:20 pm
Other than that, I have looked through the other poems, now I may be wrong, but, I seem to have noticed you haven't reviewed anyone elses poems.
Reviewing tends to work on a two way street.
As Maggi said we're all friends here and as seen previously we do disagree but as long as Maggi acknowledges thats I'm right everything runs smoothly! (joking!)

I just asked for a review.
I was reading this stuff in Ravi Zacherias' book "The Real face of Atheism".
I'm doing this to get a reaction?
If that is what you really think.

This world of WOL is so unreal.
Look at this...
I ask for a review, and why people don't.
I'm off here now... this message board stuff always get out of hands.
Goodbye

The fact of the matter is this, you were asking for work to be reviewed which you passed on as your own when that wasn't the case. Why did you feel the need to do this? I believe that you can write your own poems that will be just as absorbing and important as the ones you have copied.
Thu, 16 Aug 2007 06:33 pm
as for the message boards always getting out of hand, that obviously means theres an antagonist among us, and for once it isnt me!

Christopher,
At the end of the day - as a writer you should understand that we have a right to have our work protected from theft - It is not fair for you to pass off other people's work as your own!
As the man himself T.S Elliot said 'good poets steal, bad poets plaguerise.' and that is what you did.
You could have started a thread and asked us what we thought of these poems, giving us the correct versions, the correct titles and credit to the correct authors - you didn't and that is why people have reacted strongly.
Nobody likes being lied too and this group is no different!
Cayn honey what a cop out - ah well sweet I'm off to go and find Tiger man instead.lol
