Article in Wigan Evening Post on Poetry
Ok, a bit of a plug, but I thought it could be worth a read, especially to see the magical quotes they pluck out of thin air and attribute to me...

Poetry night at The Tavern
Wigan's arts scene is to about expand with the launch of a free poetry night.
The People Under The Stairs is the brainchild of Wigan writer John Togher who will compere the first event at The Tavern on October 20.
"There is currently only one poetry night in Wigan," he said.
"When I went along it definitely opened my eyes up to something different, so I am just trying to encourage that scene."
The first of the monthly events will feature headline act, Pete Crompton, already a regular in Wigan.
John said: "Pete is one of the most passionate and entertaining performers on the poetry scene, often seen ranting and raving energetically at the futility of everyday life and existence. There will be a second headline act which I have still to confirm, but there will also be an open mic format so anyone can come down and read their own work if they want to."
The candle-lit basement at The Tavern, on Market Street, will form the backdrop to the event, whilst live music will play upstairs.
"There is quite a change going on at The
Tavern at the moment, with a different night planned for the basement on each Saturday throughout the month.
"It's great that we have something different to do in the town centre now.
"There are four or five promoters who have improved Wigan's music scene so I want to do the same for the spoken word."
John, who also publishes the Mental Virus magazine, a collection of local poetry, short stories, intellectual debate and art, says he is hoping to encourage more poets to share their work.
He said: "A lot of people are writing poetry but they are not confident enough to stand up and read it out.
"I know people who are fed up with the town centre scene in Wigan and would never go out until Write Out Loud organised its poetry night at The Tudor."
The People Under The Stairs will start at 8.30pm on Saturday, October 20, at The Tavern, on Market Street, Wigan.
To perform, be there at 8pm.
