awake

awake

The covers may be ruffled
But beside me breathes
A sculpture
I study your sleeping face
Semi sunken a pillow envelope
Cradles
I'm close enough to hear your
Intake
And hair cascades
And finger stroke gingerly
The silky sun dance strands
With essence of ‘panten’
I love that smell
When your not around
I wash my skin in it
When your not around
A T shirt crumpled, I stare at it
and it's aroma
Suffice, it lays beside
With closed eyes I imagine
An emptiness
As though to tease myself
To convince of the hurting holes
When lovers leave
Should the unthinkable ever be
But that’s only bad day dreaming
For just then you stir
And with one longer cute nose rush
Intake, an eider feather oscillates
Stuck to the pillow
You awake
And we are netted eye to eye
Another courtship ritual
Almost eternal, dreamy gaze
For which we never tire
Yes we never tire looking at one another
Your first words a greeting
a stasis, fantastic beating
Of pulse, your freckles make patterns
sympathetic, balanced
Healthy hearts thrust forward
exchanged trust years ago
And it never faltered
And it was proud to show
in plumes fanning summer
or the whiteboard of winter snow
highlights
an aura of colour you saw in me
an enchanting creature I let you be
in my heart
It never tires
You consistently soften the
harsher days rise
And the fires of that cracking smile first glance
This morning
Reminds of a shy sunshine beam
In that questionable sky
Your hand reaches out
Greeting mine, half propped
Awkward but worth the reward
We both move spoon shaped
And doze off.

I seem to recall you reading this one and I really enjoyed it. It is one of those that I prefer to hear than read. You have a knack, when you read (off your laminated sheet) of bringing to life your work in a unique way. Your energy comes across so well and I can almost hear you perform when I read your work.
