Breath

Breath

Memories of soft hands and angel eyes.
Smiling at the thought of sweet breath
On nape of neck.

Golden band proudly worn
With contented smugness.

Early finish brings bouquet
In decorated hand
As silent key turns.

Creaking door drowned
By sweet breath
On nape of neck.

Muffled sounds, he hears
As married years
Are breathed away.

Floorboard alarm comes too late
As return comes too early
For sweet breath.

Sweet breath held,
As clutched blankets shield.

No one hears the discarded bouquet
As it drops in doorway
Winded.

Memories of soft hands and devil eyes.
Scowling at the thought of sweet breath
On another’s neck.

Discarded trampled petals
Lie silently.
Resembling little of the flowers
They once were.

Only the sweet smell lingers
On bitter breath.

A follow on to this - Part Two:

(Title): The way the second hand ticks.

Memories of soft hands and devil eyes.
Scowling at the thought of sweet breath
On another’s neck.

Betrayal spawned monster
With sharp tongue
And blunt fist.

Bitter green eyes,
Frightening windows to a soulless soul.

Pain turns to numbness
As sweet breath turns silent.

Numbness turns to pain
And bitter breath turns to gasp.

Heaving desperate rasps swallow air.
Green eyes study stained red fist.

Recent memories of screams echo
As if long gone.

The second hand turns only one way.

Unblinking blue eyes fix
On stained monster.

Betrayal spawns guilt.

Memories of fixed eyes haunt,
As the second hand turns
Stealing time.

Green eyes study clean, dirty hands
As second hand man sits
Pensive.

Ash box and ashes
Bare walls and bars
An unexpected destiny
The way the second hand ticks.
