Death of a Nightmare

Darkened walls,
In brightest light.
A place that Summer cannot warm.

Excited shoves
Within the crowd.
Returning scrambles warn
In panic.

Wild imaginations
Of dead cobweb stairs
Of charcoal eyes,
Of loose boards
Creaking doors
Slamming.

Thoughts of black captivity
Captivate and scare
The scrambling crowd
Of childhood shoves.

Unaware of inside
Believing the unbelievable.

Big brother’s tales,
Of ladies grey
Waiting.

Of rocking chairs
And whispers.

Of death on strike of twelve.

Of photographs of figures, white
In highest window pane.

Of souls who ventured in
To not again return.

Replaced by time
By concrete
By car park
Shopping Mall

They killed our dreams
When they killed our nightmare.
The day that haunted
Fell.
