Getting it out there
I take my poetry into pubs and folkie sing arounds - as long as there are people who are not part of the 'scene' I'm glad to stand up and act out my stuff.
I cannot see much point in writing poetry that will only be read by other poets or professors in a hundred years' time.
Performing it can really bring your work alive - I dance about, wave my arms around - let it all hang out. I don't use a microphone either - I walk straight into the audience - it amazes me that people actually like my stuff and that I get away with it - nobody has hit me yet ha ha.
