Gods Side

Gods Side

Who is on Gods side when war breaks out?
For each side claims that God is on theirs
Who decides the high moral ground?
In the fight for justice and peace
All those millions of lives lay down,
Without question, for a wars cause
I salute each and every one of them
They were someone’s son, someone’s daughter
Now they lye in a field of white crosses
No more the din of Mortar, Tank, and rifle fire
No more the curse of death’s premature kiss
Comrades at Arms, Comrades at Peace, at Gods side

God being dead, and soldier training don't stop the deaths from hurting, though. The poems take that on board, and hurt with it. I think we're better off for that: 'no (man) is an island' etc

For me God is very much alive

The idea behind it is that poor God, is often asked, in conflict, to back up one or both sides
Each side say theirs is the just cause and because of that millions suffered and died', for what reason?

Take the Second World War; strip it away to its bones. Hitler wanted a European super state, to dominate. I don’t for one second condone what he did in the name of a cause but don’t we now have an expanding EEC. A super state dominated by Germany.. Could it be that if another path to this point could have been found? All those lives on both sides could have been spared instead of being at Gods Side.

I respect the sacrifices they made, including my family, and that their ultimate sacrifice given so others may live.

The poem is respectful of those that taught and lost there lives.but when the last gun fell silent who had really won and lost?
