Hey Up, I've a Play on BBC Radio 4 on 15th A

I've adapted (and I use the term very, very loosely) Robert Burton's The Anatomy of Melancholy for BBC Radio 4. It airs in the Classic Serial spot on Sunday 15th April, although -- despite the book being nearly 600 pages long -- 'they' only allowed me one episode of one hour. The book and the play share the same title but little else except the spirit. King James 1st of England, 6th of Scotland, gets to do some performance poetry, rides a Harley Streetson, and sings Bohemian Rhapsody with his pals whilst taking a shower at a fortune teller's. On his epic journey with Robert Burton he aso encounters a flock of yogic flyers returning to their summer feeding grounds in Hebden Bridge, and a walking passenger aircraft. Modelling balloons also come into it -- oh yes, let's hear it for anachronisms! And there's a very tiny Queen. The play is repeated the following Saturday just in case you couldn't believe your ears the first time round. My BBC Writing Normal-ish name is Lavinia Murray.

DG -- you're very kind, thank you so much! If you do have the time to listen, I'd love to hear what you think. Scary!

Paul, it may have even exceeded -- nay, surpassed -- my previous insanity level. BBC publicity are calling me a 'surrealist writer.' Ha ha ha ha! They also say the play is 'life affirming' thereby assuring nervous would-be listeners that no one will die as a consequence if they do dare to tune in. However, I believe they have installed height restrictions.

Hi Moxy,

Congrats on Radio 4! Not sure I've asked this but I didn't get to hear it and was wondering if I could see the script? Or parts of it? I was shortlisted last year for the BBC Radio 4 Alfred Bradley Award and I'm looking to make the next step up, so any help or advice from someone of your obvious talents would be a great help. Thanks for considering it and good luck with any future work.

regards

Gary

Thanks Moxy,

I'm stuck in London at the moment and I've forgotten the password to my acuity email! It's on my Mac at home (not my laptop) - I'm home (Manchester) later today so I'll pick it up then. Once again, thank you for your kind consideration - it is very much appreciated.

regards

Gary
