How do you parent a teenager?

How do you parent a teenager?

How do you manage a teenager with an attitude?
No matter what you say of do there’s no gratitude
You try anything that may work as a platitude
Despite your best efforts they still can be rude

You still have to compete with a second parent
All that you say your roll it will all but circumvent
Your request fails to connect, space for rent
Any reality dawns when by plasma TV it is sent

Don’t even think you are even in the top-set
You still have to compete with PC and internet
Every;.com, .uk, drop down menu, confused.net
Dam all that’s ‘Window’s’, drawn the curtains yet

You have to learn a whole new kind of language
Dotty and safage, I am told has its usage
You strive to find a word, some sort of linkage
Attempts at this will often end up in wreckage

Of course you have never ever been a teen
All those peer group pressures you’ve never seen
So how can you understand the teen scene?
Your old and grey, your just a has been

Parenting a teenager, we smile but cringe behind a mask
Remember your parent’s pains, making life a hard task
Haven’t you come out the other side, matured, brandy in cask?
Look for commonality, take a deep breath, is all we can ask
