Is there any such thing as the present?
I had wandered off into one of my own little worlds and asked myself this question? Surely there can be no present because essentially everything we do in the moment becomes the past. It is impossible to remain in the present day because living itself contradicts this as living itself forces us to constantly become part of the past...?

Well it might mean something to you Richard, but it is not poetry.

it is a general question not meant to be a poem of any kind!

That's rather harsh criticism, Malcolm, and there is a danger that you might put him off. :P.
Richard, in answer to the question you asked on my profile, yes I do - I go all to them all over the place.

The present exists for a small interval of time dt (lim dt->0).

I saw this little verse on a postcard in a cafe once.
It certainly gave me something to think about at the time.
" Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is a mystery.
Today is a gift,
that's why it's called the present."
That's a little bit of poetry, don't you think?

On the other hand.....
Although every second that passes immediately becomes the past, would it be fair to say you always know what is going to happen in the next second of your life???
If it was, would you always be living in the present???
Or am I just not paddling with a full crew???
ps Janet, lovely few words, I have seen the same words, quite true, can rely on you for the poetic slant!
