Lift to gigs.

Would anybody be willing to give me a lift to some gigs around manchester, oldham, wigan, liverpool etc...?

I really want to perform but am quite poor.
This isn't a joke or anything, just need a little help.

Have you got any mates who could possibly give you a lift? That way you save money on travel and you may even convert some poor unsuspecting driver to the world of poetry! Thats what I did, though most of my out of town gigs normally see's me sleeping in train stations :(

Yeah, from time to time if I miss the last train home from gigs, or I catch a train to the nearest station and then walk 12 miles home

Insane? Thats a bit harsh isn't it? Walkings the cheapest form of travel, nothing insane about saving the 16 quid a taxi would cost!

ok, maybe insane was a bit strong... HOWEVER, I feel like you roll "12 miles" of the tongue a little too easy for my liking!

I think I'd rather "waste" £20 on the taxi, if I had it.

How long would that take?

The walk can take anything between two to three, it is easier than it sounds, unless you have to be up at six for work in the morning!

Pete Crompton

Hi Cayn / Chris

I walk back from the train station to mine which takes 50 minutes, its a good way to keep fit and to sober up

not too bad if you have a friend to chat to or an ipod

I am new to the thought of live performance, I have yet to stick my toe in the water.

Any suggestions as to the best way forward and places to go.

I have over 70 on disability, social issiues and many other subjects, which some of you have already read. With regards to disability I have Parkinson's. I don't know see it as a handicap, but as a key to many doors. Put it this way the chances I would be typing this now is remote.

My work is mainly tounge in cheek, but varies

Cheers

Are you from Bolton, it's a great night and a really relaxed atmosphere, very mixed bag of poets male/female old(er)/young(er) amateur, seasoned Pro's.

much love and laughter to everyone.

Hello Maggie and Paul

Thank you for your kind words and invitation the Howcroft Inn on the 19th.

I come from Flixton near Urmston. I have written one about wood, which accidently come out based around The Drifters song - Save the Last Dance For Me. I have called it
'I'll Save The Lath For Thee'. I have a straight verse version aswell, in terms of know tune. I will be contacting Pete tomorrow.

All things being equal I would love to come. I have an alternative email address of pjdirect95@yahoo.co.uk

regards

Phil

Phil, I don't drive and I'm shockingly rubbish at directions so I won't attempt to tell you how to get there - as I don't know but there should be directions on the gig guide or perhaps you and Peter could meet up and travel together?
This might be too much short notice for you but there is a gig tonight at the White Hart inn in Oldham, I think? Check gig guide - I don't know what it is like cause I've never been but it gets a good write up on the thread - from what I've seen and experienced though I think Bolton is most relaxed for new comers - but I've not been involved very long - so maybe the others will have a different take on it.

By the way I hope you can come to Bolton as I would love to see you perform, I love the idea of the drifters poem - I once had the pleasure of seeing one of the reformed versions and they are fantastic, so no doubt I would enjoy it as I love their songs and your poems.
