As I go around here and there doing pomes at open mics I am often struck by the time that is spent by the performer in explaining the background of the work- its meaning, the concept behind it and so on - its politics or whatever.
Shouldn't all this become apparent within the text of the work itself?
Either it is relevant in which case include it - or it's irrelevant in which case screw it. Or am I just a fascist? ?
