Progress...

Powerful poem. Great warning. Can feel the rhythm taking over as you read. I imagine this would make a great performance reading.

I agree. This will sound great performed.

I like this and the way you have personified time and the Earth.

Doesn't bode well for the future, 'though.

I like this poem.

The subject is appealing, especially the machine aspect.

I like this poem, the idea of the Earth warning its inhabitants that they will be 'the victor of our own sorry defeat', but no one is listening becuase they'd sooner believe the Daily Mail. Very thought provoking and like everyone else has said I bet it is even better performed.

I really like the intertwining of mythological feats with scientific/technological advances: progress almost as urban(e) myth. The legend of ourselves: declamatory rhetoric, licence, post enlightenment. I suppose the Mail does pretend to give the reader a touch of the ol' intellectuals. The rhyme scheme someimes knocks the rhythm out of kilter for me, but I have a distinct feeling it's me not hitching the tempo to my tonsils properly! This poem has a vehement heart -- all of your poems do, Sophie. Power to your keyboard! (solar power, that is)
