kris
something that has been bothereing me
right for all of you guys out there who don't know me im kris the .....compare guy for the overdrive sesions and for the hovis presley thing in botlon.
now this is something that has quite frankly been bothering me since overdrive 2. and i have desided to grow a backbone and say what i realy feel.
at the last overdrive i sang the backing vocals for one of don's songs. i thouraly enjoyed it and i sang with don becaulse francly i was scared and abit tedious (if that is the right word) to get up there.
after we had finished i was filled with great sadness AND a great deal of anger towards one person and one person only.
he is also a compare i think his name is paul (correct me if im wrong).
now the reson for this is quite simple. he was snigering and laughing all the way through the song and was only singing to the bits i was doing.
now ... i have a passonate hate for smug people. expecaly smug people who put people down who have ago. and i expecaly do NOT like being put down by a person who has less of a singing ability than me.
now ok i cant wright my own songs/poems so shoot me for it. but hell ive give it a go.
now i was so angry on tuseday night that i had to go into another room and chill out for abit.
i dont apreciate and think it was a deserved quite frankly.
now a few select people (whos names will not be mensiond)
have said he dose it all the time.
so the thing im getting at is YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO LAUGH AT PEOPLE..........EXPECALY A 16 YO KID/GUY.........EXPECALY SOMEONE WHO HASNT DONE THIS BEFORE.
if i get banned from compareing for expressing my anger then fine. cos it has worked me up
please excuse the spelling mistakes
thank you for your time

Hello Kris,
I am really sorry to hear you were so upset -- performing in public is very tough indeed. It takes a heap of courage. I am pretty sure that the person you felt was mocking you was actually joining in, maybe not in the way that you would have liked, but my guess is that they were singing along because they were enjoying themselves -- and so enjoying your performance. Members of an audience respond in many different ways and often have different -- and possibly not the most helpful to the performer -- ways of showing their appreciation. People who heckle comedians often do so because they feel that's what the comedian wants -- the thought behind the response is entirely positive. Like Cayn suggests, have a word with the person -- tell them how you feel. It is entirely likely they didn't realise they were upsetting you. And, most importantly of all, don't be put off performing. Get out there and strut your stuff!

Hi Kris
I'm guessing that I'm the person you refer to so let me start off by apologising for taking so long in replying to this but I've not seen it until now.
I'm very sorry that I seem to have upset you that certainly wasn't my intention. I can't say why I was laughing but I can assure you that it was nothing to do with either your's or Don's performance or song which in fact I enjoyed very much. In fact I remember commenting to my friend that it sounded like a lost 60's classic.
Yes, I did join in singing at what I thought was the chorus along with several other people and, if you had watched any of the other acts, you would have seen us joining in with them too. Remember that you and Don had microphones and we could hear you quite clearly even with other people singing - this isn't always clear to the person performing if there are no monitors to hear oneself.
This may be a generational thing but, even now in folk clubs, it is customary to join in with the choruses of songs being sung and this is supposed to be a " jam" night where everyone joins in.
So again I'm sorry for any upset caused it wasn't intentional and I hope you accept my apology in the spirit it is intended
Regards
Paul
