Thoughts on Rupi Kaur

Rupi Kaur has taken the world by storm with the success of her two books and the controversy surrounding her by her Instagram posts (sparking the Instapoet movement) and the backlash she received from the poetry community. I personally never read any of her work but judging by the reviews and her poems she performed on stage she comes off very neo-feminist. I'm happy people are paying attention to poetry but it shouldn't be at the expense of showing your period blood. Those who feel like her work is subpar should promote poets who are quality. Plenty of poets who can be millionaires if poets stop having this "starving artist" mindset. What are your thoughts on her?

This is the first I have heard of her. Just read a bunch of her stuff. It reads like the HePo feed. Keep it short, cuz ain't nobody listening. The movement should be called "The School of ADHD". But that is my opinion, for what it's worth. But then again, poetry as an career has long been a futile endeavor for most. So, perhaps, this is good thing, reviving what has often been regarded as art for academics, whiny losers, and love lost adolescents.

Thanks for starting this discussion.
