Unshaven of Urmston
Defo the last for a week, no cheering
Unshaven of Urmston
Looking out of my bedroom window one pain filled sleepless night
Expecting to see my Urmston neighbours I saw an unusual sight
Down of our road three or four elephants were being held at bay
By this thunderous snoring that sounded like a donkey’s bray
Wiping my face, my hands were sanded by my stubbly face
Hoping to wipe away that hallucination and leave know trace
Slowly opening my eyes, daring to peek and what a menagerie!
The Zebra’s and Giraffes played football, refereed by a monkey
Upon retreating behind the curtains, I caught sight of Chester Zoo
I raced to the bathroom to refresh my face and go to the loo
Now relaxed I returned to the bedroom and fell back in shock
There was a snake coiled around the lamp eyeing a male peacock
I gingerly slipped in between the sheets, damn all that gives pain
Go back to sleep, its just a bad dream, tomorrow normal again!!
Sure enough morning came, the sunbeams warmed the interior
Rolled over I saw the snake, wife up tucked inside, looking superior

Thanks for your comments Gemma. The Snake skin is now hung up on the wall. We had snake burgers for weeks, trouble was the burgers kept shedding their skins.
I am in the process of turning the peom into a childrens book and have re-titled it 'Wide Awake William'. I am also doing the illistrating.
thanks
Phil

As always, I love your surreality and humour. Yes, this would make a delightful children's book, Phil. Welcome back from your holiday!
