Biography

I am a woman, half English, half Iranian, singing is my medicine and poetry comes somewhere close I like to get all the thoughts outside of my head and this is where I am going to share them. I am made up of many halves, as are we all.

Half and Half is comprised of 6 poems

I have always felt English I have never felt all English I have never felt white I have always felt ashamed of the English I've been scared off Iran Don't tell them you're Iranian, she said Ok, I said Iran treats is women badly without apology England pretends to treat all equally Iran openly imprisons and tortures England imprisons and tortures elsewhere I don't look Iranu I don't speak Farsi I've never met an Iranian who doesn't speak Farsi, he said You're not half Iranian, he said I have always felt mixed She told me half of me was cultured Iran and England have been uneasy bedfellows Control release punish A bad break up I've always wanted an Iranian family Teach me Farsi Teach me how to cook Teach me how to use a samovar By words, time and a look It's not as warm with a book Iranian aunties, not happy about the white sister in law Mo left M Mo was barely grown M not grown and alone It's complicated to be half and half What's my local connection Who recognises me No nods in the street Awkward explanations Embarrassment and staring at feet England was going to invade Iran That created an interesting internal feeling One half holds a gun to the other half The whole feels compromised Iranian pottery Do you feel anything she asked? No, I did not reply.
