We are the team running the competition, and our objectives are to: • Encourage a poetic response to life under lockdown • Create a poetic record of the pandemic era • Raise money and awareness for the frontline NHS

Beyond the Storm – the Write Out Loud poetry competition in aid of NHS Charities’ Covid-19 appeal Key facts • 7th May Entries open • 19th June entries close • 25th July people’s vote opens • 8th August announcement of judge’s winners and the people’s vote • Entries via website only • Entry is free, donations requested • All funds go to the charity via Just Giving Judged by Andrew McMillan, with a panel of supporting judges - established poets or reviewers - to help sort the anticipated high number of entries. All poems will be reviewed by at least three judges. Prizes No monetary prize. Andrew will decide on his 1st, 2nd, 3rd and highly commended poems. These will be read on video by actors from BBC's Casualty before placings are revealed. There will be a people's vote on those poems in the videos (with opportunity to donate) People’s vote winner, and Andrew's placings announced together on 8th August All winners, highly commended and a number of runners-up will appear in a commemorative anthology* to be sold to add to donations for the appeal. *anthology subject to sufficient funds being available.
