Information

Cannon Poets have met monthly since 1983. We meet at The Moseley Exchange, The Post Office Building, 149-153, Alcester Road, Moseley, Birmingham B13 8JP usually on the first Sunday of each month [except August] at 2pm. We are a diverse group of people who have a common interest in and love of poetry. The group encourages poetry writing through workshops run by members or visitors; break-out groups where poems are subjected to supportive peer groups scrutiny; ten minute slots where members read a selection of their poems to the whole group and through publication in our quarterly journal, The Cannon’s Mouth. Members are encouraged to participate in poetry events and competitions.

What we do

Cannon Poets run an annual poetry competition 'Sonnet or Not'. Details are available on our website. A special poetry competition commemorating the life of former Cannon Poet Ralph Ockendon is currently running. The final judge is Sean O'Brien. The first prize is £500 and the closing date is 30 June 2013. Winners will also be invited to a special presentation event attended by Sean O'Brien in September 2013. Details on our website. Cannon Poets quarterly journal, The Cannon's Mouth, is published in March, June, September and December each year. Submissions are welcome by the 15th of the month prior to publication. Our postal address is 22 Margaret Grove, Harborne, Birmingham B17 9JH.

All poems are copyright of the originating author. Permission must be obtained before using or performing others' poems.
