“Her delicate constructions, quirky sense of humour and startling honesty make her a delight to behold.” – Nosher.co.uk Carmina has had much experience writing in third person due to writing many essays whilst studying English Literature at UEA, writing reviews for Concrete newspaper and suffering from an addition to Facebook/Twitter status updates. Carmina has always loved writing but first went to an Apple & Snakes open mic at BAC with Anya Destiney and has been performing ever since. Having studied an MA in Creative Entrepreneurship at UEA London, Carmina is a writer with a passion for poetry that bridges page and stage. She has also read English Literature at UEA after completing an art foundation year at Central Saint Martins. She currently works as an English Academic Mentor at a secondary school in Bethnal Green. She has been published in various magazines and anthologies and regularly performs feature poetry sets in both London and Norwich. Highlights have been The Monday Night Alternative at Norwich Arts Centre supporting Francesca Beard and at The Bicycle Shop as support for Kate Tempest. She has explored an interest in the interdisciplinary, performing at art exhibitions in London and collaborating with a musician in Norwich at the Sainsbury’s Centre for Visual Arts, including a singing début. She has also displayed her passion for women’s issues, with readings at events such as the Feminist Midsummer Party at Balham Bowling Club. Carmina competed in the 2010 Poetry Rivals slam in Peterborough after gaining a place in the top 50, and would like to expand to other areas of the UK. Whilst she does not consider herself solely a slam poet, she enjoys participating in competitions as a way of progressing her craft. She has won a Farrago Zoo Award for ‘Best Feature Debut’ in 2007 and most recently, she gained a trophy for ‘Best Loss Poem’ in Glam Slam 2011. Coming from an academic background, Carmina had enjoys discussions of writing, the arts and her experiences. Her first radio interview was recorded at XStream East Radio, and can be accessed from Nikk Quentin Woolf’s blog. She has delivered workshops at The Netherhall School in Cambridge, as a Poet Shadow for Ross Sutherland, as part of Shake the Dust, organised by Apples & Snakes. She is inspired by life experiences, from the normal day-to-day, to films, books, music, current events and television. She likes her audience to be able to identify and connect emotionally with her work.
