Samples

Two Pollock My catch, surplus for the day, sinks into the deep chest of the Whirlpool freezer. Then, two weeks to the morning is brought out again stiff like clubs. "You could kill a man with these" I say "If you hit him often and hard enough and if they didn't break or thaw before you were finished." I place them across the dish like Pisces, head to tail, eyes white, tails crisp with frost They rattle against the ceramic glaze like china fish with swollen, frozen eyes. Midday, I make another sortie to my prospective meal... Blood leaks, pink and watery from the relaxing flesh but still the thaw's just skin deep. Ice bones lie beneath the softness until the evening, I light the grill. The fish are human now with dark eyes, with shining skin and fins, pink gills and stomachs like open coats. Soon the eyes are white again, the skin crisp and brown. "It's been a long day" I say, dropping my plate into the sink Certainly enough time to kill a man- I think.

Hi Dom - a very warm welcome to WOL. Especially as you are in wonderful Cornwall - and I love the Miracle Theatre! I hope you will find the time to make use of the site and enjoy it too!
