WHY DO BEAUTIFUL WOMEN ALWAYS SMOKE? 1. You and I met in the sunshine; you asked me for a fag I said smoking is not my thing You still insisted for a puff and drag Cars passed, men whistled and horns blazed You shrugged and sighed and your eyes rolled Oh how those drivers and I made you bored I need a ciggie you said, angrily, walking off; Leaving me wondering Why do beautiful women always smoke? 2. Few weeks later I was waiting for the plane On my way to Dubai In you glided in that mellow way Hair waving, hands swinging, high heels clicking Every one’s eyes lighting up when they saw you First thing you said was whether I had a cigarette I was dismayed which made you uptight You said the bastards had banned smoking indoors But the plane was about to leave and I whispered Why do beautiful women always smoke? 3. Years have passed and nowadays your hair is gone You wear a wig; you are always ill and blue and accident prone You seem to blame everyone The husband has left and the kids just want your throat and throne Everyone is wrong and cigarettes are out of your vocabulary Yes time is a teacher and so we must be exemplary You even helped me sing this song Why do beautiful women always smoke? © Freddy Macha, London, September 2010
