Information
In the Red magazine aims to publish new writers of poetry and prose fiction alongside established authors. Now entering its eleventh year, In the Red will help provide the means for you to develop as a successful writer. We want to see your name in high street book stores, and we're going to give you that opportunity. The magazine is free, so we fund it by hosting monthly open mic nights and other events that will be advertised on Facebook and around the Liverpool John Moores University campus. These open mic nights are set up to give you the chance to practice public reading and show off your writing in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We want you to use these events as an opportunity to experiment with your style and your substance. We don't have time for censorship and restrictions. We want the raw stuff as well as the chiselled masterpieces. However, to make life easier for us, because we are after all very lazy, we do hold some restrictions for submissions to the magazine. We will be accepting submission of up to: 40 lines of poetry 1000 words of prose and 101 word flash fictions (Challenging!). One thing we don't have any restrictions on is you. You can be whoever you are and that's ok by us. Students, ex-students, future-students, don't-want-to-be students, shopkeepers; you're all welcome. Submissions are free, though we don't turn down large donations, just send your work as individual files attached in an email to inthered11@gmail.com with the subject title 'Submission' and we'll get in touch sometime in the late afternoon, the following week, when we wake up. Deadline for submissions is late January 2013 so you have loads of time to write and redraft before you start sending. See you at the first Open Mic!
