Biography
I'm kinda new to this poetry thing, but I'd love to feed the newfound obsession. Spoken word and informal poetry is my thing, so enjoy.

Set Fire to My Soul (point of view of Dawud Abdulwali: Man convicted of 2015 fire set to Da Vinci apartments in Los Angeles, California) His point of view below written for an English course... The fucking wren sings, and sings while boasting its joyful thoughts Outside my window, if only I could tear its beak And wring its neck of happiness. Anger seems to be all that engulfs me these days Well; hatred, remorse, and lividity to be exact. Sometimes, I think of the innocent lives lost Battered, tortured, destroyed, and oppressed There is nothing I can do to go back and make change But imagine what I could do now. I am black, they were black, but what a color to be The defilement of my people might just be the end. We have abolished slavery, Killed off guilty perpetrators, But nothing seems to have really changed. The end of an era can be now The end of a deadly game of cat and mouse. The end of scenarios that relive each other too often The end of obscure conclusions And important unanswered questions. The end of it all. A cop plays with guns like marbles And shoots off like death is the purpose A black man walks as he always should He carries positivity around him But the cop pickpockets and robs the man of a future. The flames ignite the sky in exuberance Sparks blast from others and the chain never ends. An uneasiness whirls through my insides Before my mind understands what signals my stomach sends My throat projects vomit and it covers my shoes. “This is the end” I say, wiping away the remains. “This is the end of it all.” I say as I walk away
