Can I
I have to ask you a question, And I ask you to be true, It is a question that I must ask, An answer I must hear from you, My question, I suppose, would be this, Will you still choose to stay, Beside me when you see through me, And learn Im not this way? When you see the scars upon my heart, The scars upon my soul, The chain of burden that I carry, Will you stay or will you go? When you see the guilt Ive aquired, When you see me bare my shame, When you hear me confess my desires, When you hear me forsake my own name, If you witness the tears Ive been crying, If I broke down and showed you my pain, If I gave up the lies that define me, Stop letting the truth get in the way, What if I let you see me dying, What if I let you see me killing myself, What if I let you see me trying, Dying, rebuilding myself, If I shared with you my true motives, I told you that Id lost my faith, Would your light still be there to guide me? Would you still help me find my way? I ask you as my Brother, As my Sister, as my Friend, I ask you as a Stranger, As a Face Ive Seen Time and Again, I ask you as a Lover, As a Fighter, as a Ghost, As a Teacher, as a Student, As the One Who Loves You Most, I ask you as a Watcher, As a Seeker, as a Child, I ask you as a Spirit, As a Whisper that is Wild, I ask you as a Person, When you look down deep, And look at those that you call Friend, And hope you do not weep, Will you stand by me as my Brother, As my Sister, As my Friend, As my Lover, as my Neighbor, Will you be there to the end? I have to ask you a Question, And I ask you to be true, If I find the strength to open up, Can I depend on you? Oct. 7, 2007
