Biography

Hello, I am Michael Dennis 'The Black Cab Poet' Writing, let alone writing poetry isn't something I have always done. It has come to me later on in life. I am a London taxi driver and I write poems about life. I leave poems on the back seat of my cab for my passengers to read at their leisure. I also perform/recite my poetry at various open mic nights in and around London and the South East. GARFIELD PARK To most it's nothing special, just an ordinary park, For me and all my mates, it's where we met and had a lark. Name calling and wind-ups, in the disused tractor shed, Stumpy, Frog-Eyes, Custard, Pigeon Chest and then Square head. The weather's getting warmer, Parky fills the paddling pool. Now who's first for a dunking? Paul or Yogi as a rule. Summertime is with us, shall we have game of cricket? Use the litter bin from over there, as a makeshift wicket. Rob cycling round the playground, Percy shouts, get awf that bike. Shut up you sad old bastard, I'll ride it where I like! Drifting down the Wandle, on a polystyrene raft, Winding up the Gypsies, as they threw rocks at our craft. Fights with elderberries, on your clothes they leave a stain, Laughing at the flashers, as they go by on the train. The paedo sitting on the bench, young girls he likes to spy, He won't stay long,he'll clear off, when the insults start to fly. Five a side or three and in, kicking lumps out of Chris Perry, In the top right corner of the goal, the ball, I try to bury. Dribbling round the dog turds, onto which we'd sometimes fall, Then that poxy mutt called Coco, sinks his teeth into our ball. It's where I saw the sparkle, in my first love's big brown eyes, The summer days we'd sit and talk, my stomach butterflies. I go there now, think of the ghosts, the things I've heard them say, That place is where I made good friends, that I still have today. © 13/11/05 MICHAEL DENNIS 'The Black Cab Poet'

Hello Michael,

Welcome to Write Out Loud, we hope you are enjoying the site and we're really looking forward to reading some of your work. I know that you will be warmly welcomed by other WOL-ers too.

It would be great if you could upload a picture of yourself, it’s really good to see what our fellow poets look like.

Have a good look around, there’s always lots going on and if you have the time to make some comments about the work of other poets please feel free to do so, it’s often the best way to get some constructive feedback about your own work too.
There’s usually somebody who’ll help you out with any problems that you might encounter, so just ask and someone will get back to you.
WOL is a friendly, creative and unassuming place, so welcome from all of us once again.

The Write Out Loud Team.
