Biography

A 19-year-old student from Manchester interested in poetry and songwriting. Trying to build up the confidence to start properly sharing my work.

? ? / ? ? Parka hoods up Cover hollow faces The party people Of the nineteen-eighties Long gone now are the smiley faces Too busy working Bringing up their babies Raised in the rouble Of the towns you left behind Clinging to any hope That they might find The toolboxes gone Now the men carry knives The only love they get Is from their pregnant wives Club prices up Wallets are empty But the kids drink up Cos the booze is plenty Enough to help Forget the fate Of the slow dismantle Of the welfare state They live in the past The music was better They never saw it But the kappa sweater Their dad once wore To the hacienda Now parties with them Through three day benders They’ll relive the past Or at least try At reunion concerts They’ll wave goodbye To the childhood heroes Who have now grown old As they age themselves And reality takes hold.

Some good ideas in your sample piece you've shared. Perhaps you could shorten it as its maybe a bit long for my own personal tastes, but I did enjoy it. Welcome to Write Out Loud btw. I suspect this would go down well live if you ever chose to perform it. I co run one night in Manchester and I could see it going down well must admit, but anyway.. keep sharing
