It Happened Guards waiting for the travellers Silently shuffling into the station Hands holding, feet moving On on into the future Dogs barking, snarling, Straining their leashes Snapping, Guards shouting, pushing, hitting. Babies crying, mothers sobbing Elders stumbling, shaking, falling, Others praying softly, silent Ragged stars, yellow stars Sounds of gunshot Doors banging, locked inside Screaming, wailing Dark, dirty, try to breathe Swoosh, the sound of engines starting Muffled screams behind the doors Whistle blows, stand clear, Slowly, slowly out of the station. Steam clears on the empty platform Tension still in the heavy air Chug, chug into the distance All the yellow, ragged stars. A teddy bear lies in the gutter A childs glove lies in the rain All gone into the distance Steam billows, it rounds the bend.
