Dr. Rhiannon Hooson is a Welsh poet and academic. She was born in Mid Wales in 1979, where she lived until moving to the north of England in 1998. She has won major awards for her work, including an Eric Gregory Award from the Society of Authors for a short collection, Un. Her first pamphlet, This Reckless Beauty, was published in 2004, and she has since been widely published in literary magazines and anthologies. Her first full length collection, The Other City, was published by Seren in 2016. Her work has been described as "uncompromising and sharp-edged," (Joanna Boulter) and "compelling and provocative." (Graham Mort) Her work explores themes of otherness and the uncanny, and is rooted in the personal and political histories of the Welsh landscape. She is an experienced workshop leader and creative mentor, having led workshops in lecture halls, village halls, and the occasional barn, and has read at venues across the UK and Europe. She now lives in the Welsh marches after time spent living and working in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
