Biography

Hi, Joohm-Reap Soo-A (Hello in Khmer) and G'day! I'm an Australian-born Cambodian who lives in Australia. I am a proud father, husband, son, brother and friend to many. I spend much of my day-to-day time reflecting and thinking about what's the point of it all and what brings joy in the present. I've never been a handy person and creating things with my hands was never my mode. But since picking up the pen, I've been inspired to start creating. Creating for others, to spread ideas, stories, and overall enjoyment, and in order for me to do this skillfully, I will need to master the skill and what's exciting is that I have the rest of my life ahead to do this. In pursuit of developing mastery in writing from scratch, I am using this space to document and share my journey with the world. I was never a well-read person growing up and neither did I love reading books. However thanks to several amazing books and Youtubers over the past years, I'm taking a leap into the online world for the first time to capture my journey in writing and all the things which come with it.

Sharing my journey

The idea of being a writer has always been an intimidating concept. In my mind, it was always for the person with a degree or background in literature or who had an occupation that required them to write. It was also something that I felt you needed to be some authority or expert in order to put your views out there. However, as I get out there in the world of literature, I realised this is all in my head. All I ever needed to start was the desire and some paper and pen to write. I began writing in my journal daily for what felt like years now, so much so that it is something I carry around with me everywhere I go. The private practice of journalling was cathartic and allowed me to express whatever there was in my mind. But once I started to feel a sense of flow, especially when writing, I was excited by the prospect of being able to write anything or at least try. I now have a daily ritual whereby I read, write, take notes, make action lists, journal, ideate, listen to podcasts and watch training content on how to write.
