Biography
Ron's pamphlet 'Moon Garden' was published in 2014 by Wayleave and his full collection 'Second Glance' was published by Oversteps Books in 2022. Ron won first prize in the 2020 Frogmore Competition with 'Greylags in Fog' and his poem 'Dog in a Minefield' was listed joint first in the McLellan Prize (2013). Other awards include The Yorkshire Open (Commended 2012), Magma (Highly commended,2012), Templar 'Peloton' prize anthology (2013), Ver Poets prize anthology(2013). Templar 'Snap' prize anthology(2010). Two poems were shortlisted for The National Poetry Prize in 2013 and he has been longlisted for Bridport and Strokestown. Along with Mike Barlow and Carole Coates, Ron is a founder member of April Poets. He reads at venues throughout the country. Greylags in Fog Sightlines gone and map useless I lost you for a moment. Greylag you said. So near, the surprise of the first bird singled out in the absence of all else as we knelt, her pinions clouded and frosted like winter lakes. And as we walked another and another, here and here, our call and response numbering each solitary bird to the flock. Sometimes, in their unravelling of earth, in their overcast of dusk, I find you again, mist condensed on every lash on every fibre of your hair, moisture silvering in the crook of your sleeve; how close we were.
