Biography

I am an intensive care nurse and respiratory therapist; I've always had a passion for words.

Samples

Out, Out ------------------ There are probably fewer than 10 cc’s of blood My blue-gloved right hand artistically smeared And sanguinous suction tubing coiled Your airway covered What massacre happened here? None but this, your earnest healthcare team Navy blue and white and ceil and green Like vultures we watched you circling And pounced on you The moment you brady’d down The collective breath we’d held before came rushing Shouts for meds, compressions, counts Words spilling over the bed in milieu Like your blood on my hands Full of futile intention My blue-gloved left cradles your face As the young men pumping at your chest Make your head whip violently Otherwise useless, I paint the scene in my head There are more than 10 cc’s of blood here now But barely more than that on my hands And I am thinking of Shakespeare About World Class Care And the blood-stained hands of a royal monarchy -T. Roy, 12/13/14

Tara I really enjoyed this poem, great detail and captures the frantic yet calm atmosphere of medical interventions. Great that you have written honestly about your experiene of the job.
