About Us

Wirral Poetry Festival was established in 2019 and was has grown out of Wirral Festival of Firsts, which has featured many poetry activities and events since its foundation in 2011. In 2019 poetry had its own special weekend in a brand new venture – The Wirral Poetry Festival – involving a more intensive programme of poetry events. After a successful first year, the second Wirral Poetry Festival will return in September-October 2020 with more exciting events and opportunities to share and enjoy poetry and the spoken word..

What We Do

We run an annual poetry festival, an open poetry competition and a series of poetry picnic workshop events. Objectives are to encourage the widest enjoyment and appreciation of poetry and the spoken word.; provide opportunities for local people to write, perform and share poetry; work closely with local partners to achieve participation from our Wirral community – individuals, children, parents, schools, groups and youth groups – as well as local poets; feature a number of reputable published poets to showcase some quality contemporary poetry and poetry performance to our local audiences.
