The One Who Got Away
Im suprised that people were reading let alone enjoying my poetry so I figure I'll post this one for y'all as well. This is a poem I wrote a few years back, when myself and the flower were still aquainted and I wanted to explain the way I saw things. Hope yall enjoy.
Hi, how are you?
My life’s been lively
Even without you
The One Who Got Away
A snake from the past
Raised up its head, rattled my cage
With thoughts of you
The One Who Got Away
Suddenly I remember those words I wrote
On far off shores when my mind was consumed
By memories of you
The One Who Got Away
I woke with a start
What was that?
That which woke me in this dreaded hell of uncertainty?
Was it our foe? My duties? No…. It was you?
The One Who Got Away?
For a moment I was back
Before things went sour like milk turned on the counter
Between me and you
The One Who Got Away
I remembered the spring air
Crisp and fresh with the afternoon rain, the beauty of Gaea there for the taking
But the only thing taken was my heart, by you
The One Who Got Away
The tears fall like a storm on the sea
As I remember the things I swore I would never do
To never betray, to never hurt you
The One Who Got Away
But alas it came to be
That by my own mistakes, with my own hands
A wedge was driven between me and you
The One Who Got Away
Many times I tried to say
I tried to show I had found my way
Never again to hurt you
The One Who Got Away
But with each passing of the year
With each bridge that spanned the chasm of pain between us two
Just further away we became, the more agony I brought to you
The One Who Got Away
But a fool was I
I saw not the damage I’d done
Foisting myself at you
The One Who Got Away
Until at last the foundation was shattered
I drove that whiskey filled spike of anger and pain
Into your shores losing you forever more
The One Who Got Away
As I sit here now, I am wise enough to say
It is best we go our ways
And that I should not attempt to reel you in once again
The One Who Got Away
But my pole has no more line
My bait has all gone bad
They say there are plenty of other fish, but my hart still longs for
The One Who Got Away
I see you splash off in the distance
And set a course for reconciliation
But you always slip away
The One Who Got Away
So I sit on this dock
With nothing but Mr. Jamison and the songs in my mind
My only company since you slipped away
The One Who Got Away
And here’s to you
May you find one who snares you like you did me
and that he never decides to slip away
your very own personal
One Who Got Away
