on passing through the deathtollbooth

had a conversation with you

it was pleasant

I almost forgot

you were dead

had to remind me

in a tone of admonishment

I would soon

need waking up

I left feeling

many things at once

reassurance

sweetness and loss

and realized then

I’d have plenty

to reflect on

before my time had come
