Green is a selling point - take 1

Think green! Go green! “We have a green policy!”
What’s your green policy?
“It’s about sustainability!”
“And.. what’s sustainability?”
“Well.. It means being green!”
Go green! Think green!
Vote, vote, vote for me!

No thanks, guys. I’ve had enough of your

Greenwashing, brainwashing
Greening up, greening down
Oil investment, factory farms, GM crops, tar sands

Palm oil, coal power, Kingsnorth, pesticides
Monsanto-loving, incinerators, bank bail-out parasites

G20, nuclear power, Iraq war, WMD
You got us into all this mess, YOUR ‘green’ is not for me!

Green is a selling point – take 2

Buy green! Consumer green!
Come buy, come buy, come buy!
This lean mean green machine
Is only £59.99!

Green tells a story - take 1

Sam I am, Sam I am,
Do you like green eggs and ham?

I do not like them Sam I am,
I do not like green eggs and ham:
The eggs are from battery hens, man,
And the Amazon is being destroyed by the ham!

Would you like them here, or there?
I would not like them anywhere!
I could not, would not eat green eggs and ham,
Because there is no such THING as GREEN eggs and ham.

Green tells a story - take 2

The grass is always greener on the other side.
This led to Portia’s green-eyed jealousy in The Merchant of Venice, which is where the phrase comes from,
Which also shows that she was ‘green as grass’, meaning immature.

Maybe the green-eyed lady
Would have been happier if someone had taken her
For dinner on the green,
And given her the gift of a famille verte,
For the green, green grass of home.

In summary,
It’s not easy being green.

Green is a movement

Nature is naturally green thanks to chlorophyll. Therefore green is the colour of life, and fertility.

Fertility is embedded in the Pagan concept of Jack in the Green.
The Green Man represents rebirth and the cycle of growth in Spring.

Spring is the best time to exercise your green fingers or green thumb.
Grass is green.

Grassroots is also green.
The green movement was spawned by the need for environmental protection for the planet.
It grew from a conservation movement to a social justice movement.

Green is a social colour. Scientists claim that the colour green can reduce fatigue, because it is restful to the eye.

In Islam, paradise is green. Al Khidr, ‘The Green One’, refers to a prophet in the Koran.

Edward de Bono, physician and inventor, came up with the theory of the Six Thinking Hats. The green hat represents creativity, or new ideas and new possibilities.

In Iran, green is the campaign colour that thousands of people have shed their blood for.

Of course, poetry can be informative. I should have been more accurate: I thought that parts of this poem began to read more like an essay. Welcome to WOL. You'll really like it.

I did enjoy most of this as poetry, and the rest of it as really interesting information.

This is fabulous!
Amazing how you have incorporated so many pop culture phrases, as well as political movements associated with the colour green...
