Yeovil Literary Prize
For the seventh year running the Yeovil Literary Prize hopes to attract entries from all across the globe, but if you want to enter – you’ll have to be quick as the closing date is Monday, 31st May.
You can enter in any one of three categories – Novel, Short Story, or Poems – each of which has a large cash prize, with an extra prize being awarded to one winner from Somerset or Dorset.
The Poetry category offers a 1st prize of £500, a 2nd of £200, and a 3rd of £100 for a poem of up to 40 lines. This category will be judged by David Evans, the highly respected South African poet who is now based in Merseyside. To enter one poem, there is an entry fee of £5, or you can enter two for £8, or three for £10.
The winner of the Novel category will be awarded the Betty Bolingbroke-Kent Award and £1000, with a 2nd prize of £250, and a 3rd of £100. You need to send your synopsis and opening chapters, up to a combined maximum of 15,000 words, together with the entry fee of £10. This category will be judged by novelist Sharon Blackie (Two Ravens Press).
And finally, the Short Story category also has three top prizes; these are £500, £300 and £100. Your story should be a maximum of 2,000 words and the entry fee is £5, and it will be judged by acclaimed short story writer – Francine Lee.
In addition, there is the Western Gazette Literary Award of £100 and a trophy for one winner, from any category, who lives in Somerset or Dorset.
