In This Moment
Brief, passing, unnoticed
are all the moments
in all my days.
Do I pause in observation?
Do I see the value
in each and every opportunity,
the hidden potential
within each passing second?
Or do I squander them
on selfish pursuit
and meaningless activity?
If each moment was gold
would I store them safely away?
More often than not
I have cast them away
like litter on the roadside.
In this moment
am I less than aware
of the beauty and wonder
that can fill even the smallest of things?
Am I oblivious to everything
but the thoughts in my head
running rampant and wild?
Or do I notice
the patterns of life,
intricately woven,
or the rhythms of hearts beating
and lives intertwining
into one single melody
and many parts of harmony?
All of creation
singing the same song.
And what if I hesitate,
cease from my business,
and meditate on
the artistry painted
in the mediums of people and places
and hopes and aspirations
on a canvas of blues and greens
with splashes of color
in between the lines of black and white?
Or what if I stayed blind
and refused to open my eyes,
or pry loose
my narrowly opened mind?
Could I continue living
in a world so gray
and unbecoming?
