I sometimes wonder
about the things we'd have done
if we'd had more time.
I sometimes wonder
about the things you'd say about your life,
and about mine.
I wonder if you would have agreed
with each decision I've made.
If you'd have offered wisdom,
cautioned patience,
warned against greed.
I sometimes wonder where you are
I sometimes know all too well.
I sometimes wander to where you rest
and stand and listen for secrets
you'll never tell.
I sometimes wonder
what it would be like
to still be able to talk to you
and share a pint or two
I sometimes wonder
if I've made you happy
or if I've made you sad.
I sometimes wonder
if you would be proud of me.
I hope you would, Dad.
