Longing For Normality To Return
On the old, wide window ledge I'm sat,
In Highclere House, my new Anfield flat.
It's Saturday, but there's no footy today.
If there was, fans still have to stay away.
The rain falls, like they forecast it would.
But the signs above are looking good!
I see dogs in the park, happily run free.
Joggers out in force, glad that's not me!
So it's a different kind of weekend here.
With no football, some coffers are bare.
On match day revenue, local shops rely.
My area has suffered badly, covid is why.
To remind me of the virus, what we face.
In Stanley Park a test centre now in place.
Several tents have been set up all week.
Looks like a crime scene, white and bleak.
On a 'regular' weekend, businesses thrive.
Football and food Stalls on football survive.
Now they just long for normality to return.
And go about their business, a living to earn.
A match day atmosphere we miss and lack.
No sight or sound of police on horseback.
No away fans in our pubs having a pint or 2.
From Highclere House, today that's my view.
