slumber
Starfish sleepingswoony dreaming
softly sprawled.
Turning in sleep
as a wave turns on the shoreline
when the ocean breathes.
In, out, in, out
sleep gentle lover, sleep.
Heavy head sunk in the pillow
stubble jawed,
those wicked eyes are closed.
Sleep angel, let peace be yours.
I’ll bring a posy and lay it at your feet
while you’re safe asleep.
If only you could sleeping stay!
Innocent of my admiration.
But with the dawning of the day
comes complication.
For life is never simple.
Is it?
Those languid limbs, sleep softened
and features melted into snoozing sweetness
in whose arms I find completeness.
The sun makes flower patterns on your face
as it whispers through lace curtained windows.
Darling, darling, sleep on
and let me dream of an unruffled love.
I’ll keep watch and I will pray and pray
that you’ll still be mine when you awake.
At break of day.

This is so beautiful, Ann. I love it.
