Gorffwysfa*
Gorffwysfa* - Welsh, place of recovery
This is the place of recovery
This is where we begin again.
Amharic text reminds us,
As we live beneath the sun,
That she was a warrior,
An Amazon on the run.
When sky was black and yellow as gold,
She was dragged across the sunless sea
By men without a soul:
Her stories and her narrations,
Her lives as yet untold
Were dumped inside a slavers' hold.
From slave ships and from factories
Amidst the stinking seas
We hear the triumph of wizened men
These goblins of the sea. :
Men who never see the sun;
Nor wonders do behold.
Gobeen men and counters,
These misers of the heart,
Their fractured souls’ inheritance
Is to live their lives apart
From this Abyssinian maid
They swore was in her grave.
Such long and false forgetting,
Of moons and seas and sunne,
Is lifted by the light of night:
In the heart where songs begun
Of damsels rare and bold,
Who sing on Mount Amara:
As the poet Coleridge once foretold.

Hugh. I am glad the song reminded you of what was, I hope, a happy childhood.
