Ticket to Edinburgh

We’ve heard from thee regular visitors to Write Out Loud that they will be performing at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, so if you’re going – do try and get along to show your support.

Musical comedy star Tim Minchin has described fellow Aussie H Anthony Hildebrand - WOL poet, comedian and host of South London’s regular cool but chaotic show ‘An Event of Some Kind’ – as “... a comedian of most hilariously curved wittery.”

H Anthony’s show, ‘Why is a Lettuce?’ (a question I’ve often asked myself), will be his Fringe debut, and this satirical, surreal, and superlatively silly show promises poems of unnecessary cruelty, incompletely rendered graphs and equations about electronic rhythm machines of a certain age, and a lot of stupid jokes and ideas. Or to quote Tim again “You should see this show!”

The venue is The Gilded Balloon Teviot-Wee Room, and H Anthony and his lettuce will be there every day from Wednesday, 4th to Sunday, 30th August (excluding 16th). Tickets range in price from £8.50 to £10.50 and are available from The Gilded Balloon’s Box Office on 0131 622 6552 or their website – www.gildedballoon.co.uk

right   Kitty Cointreau’s BraHaHa is a vibrant, fun and uplifting show that aims to bring together the glamour and decadence of burlesque with the wit and charm of stand-up comedy.

The show will change each time as there are special guests, guest compères, and circus and cabaret performers every night joining Kitty – the undisputed star of the show for an un-missable revue direct from sell-out success at the Manchester and Leicester comedy festivals, and Brighton Fringe 2010.

Acts that will be joining Kitty include T.V.’s Patrick Monahan and Perrier Newcomer Winner 2004 - Will Hodgson, comedians Susan Murray and Chris Ramsey, and Australian sensation – Circus Trick Tease, with more acts being added all the time.

The delightful Kitty Cointreau (who you may know from poetry events as WOL’s Cat Davies) has been compared to Dita Von Teese and you can see more of her (quite literally) on her current showreel at: www.myspace.com/catdaviescomedy

Her BraHaHa show runs from Saturday, 7th August to Sunday, 29th (excluding 16th) at the Zoo Roxy (Loft) at The Roxy Art House. Tickets are £9 (£8 concessions) and there is a special £5 preview show on Saturday, 7th August. Tickets are on sale now at the box office on 0131 662 6892 or from the website at:

And finally – at completely the other end of the audience market – if you are at the Fringe with children you might like to take them along to a children’s performance poetry show.

‘Our Little Green Book of Garden Verse’ is both a book and a show, devised, written and illustrated by WOL’s Jane Wilcock and her daughter, performing art student -Jenny Wilcock, and emo extraordinaire and art student – Grace Mutton. The show will be performed at Edinburgh by Jenny and Grace, who will take the children on an imaginary journey through the garden, and beyond.

This gently humourous, sing-along show is aimed at children up to 11 years old, it is free, though donations are appreciated, and lasts about 40 minutes. It starts at 4pm every day from Monday, 23rd August to Monday, 30th August inclusive; and the venue is the Lindisfarne room at St Cuthbert’s Parish Church on Lothian Road, EH1 2EP.
