Waking up from the Hurt
You promised me a future,
I painted the perfect picture.
Failing to see the sands,
Slipping through those firmly grasped hands.
Your one moment of affection
I’d find an eternal connection,
I thought this was love,
Until you took away my winter’s glove
I stopped dreaming,
My heart was screaming,
What was this injustice?
The longest day, it was my solstice.
As days went by,
I learnt you were not the guy.
Waking up from the hurt,
I finally saw the dirt,
A layer of blanket I’d made
To hide the truth of which I was so afraid.
I walked on,
You just watched until I was gone.
I created my own future,
And found there was no such thing as the perfect picture.
I had smiles, laughter and happiness to fill my heart with eternal affection,
There was no need to find the connection.
I deserved more and I deserved better,
I finally began to matter.
We make mistakes,
But these are not reasons to break,
One must look up at the clouds,
Amidst the shrouds,
And past the rain
The sun will always rise again...
