LIFE OF PIE
The world and its uncle knows the number of days there are in March. “Thirty one” some wag says.
But I’m talking celebratory and memorial days like International Women’s Day, St David’s Day, St Patrick’s Day, World Book Day, World Wildlife Day, Red Nose Day, World Poetry Day, Tolkien Day and Piano Day; not to mention the focus there’s been on LGBTQIANTYSILIOGOGOGOCH issues. Any more and they’d have to start the month in mid-February and let it run to May Day.
But I’m willing to bet, though, that fewer of you will be aware of the huge significance of tomorrow, Sunday, 14th as International Pie Day.
What with the pubs being shut this year, you need your mum to get her finger out and rustle up your favourite. Personally, mine’s Steak and Kidney but the whole spectrum opens up for you – rabbit pie with carrots, chicken and ham, apple and custard, pork pie with mushy peas, lemon tart, even fish pie at a pinch. And these are just those which sit comfortingly in British cuisine. For all I know, in less civilised quarters of the globe they might use snails and frogs’ legs or some such garbage.
So get your order in early. Be kind to mum and give her time on Sunday morning to put her apron on and get cooking. And celebrate The Pie.
(Just looked this up on Google and they spell it Pi).
