Places We've Been
I am taking a detour
Down the memory lane
Revisiting places we’ve been
People I danced with
Meals we shared
Roofs we laid under
Paths we took to get here
They’re rough rocky paved routes
With well filled stinky portholes in summer
Omni directional windy-dusty air in spring
We kept clean and healthy, or tried
Icy cold stony ground in winder
We watched out for sharp rocks, they cut
We had and have destinations to reach
The thatch hurts served me once
Those perforated iron sheets shelters me
It’s a safe home for many, look around
We cooked mutete, fish-cans and pap for days
We prayed and searched for even more
Fancy meals were foreign and TV news
Harmony, love, respect and care kept us alive
I danced with family, friends and encounters
We smiled, laughed and shared words of wisdom
So, my people and family of choice
I’m gone take a quick drive to the other side
No promises, but I’ll be back. We’ll dance again
May places we’ve been live in our memories forever
